Farningham and along the Darent
It was a lovely walk day - not too hot - and we set out for the quaint village of Farningham where our walk along the River Darent was to start. However starting was not quite as easy as we expected. The OS Map showed the path was on the South side of the river and a local map in the village also showed the path was on the south of the river. But no path existed so we hunted around a bit and walked outside the village and then spotted the path below us from the main road bridge on the North side of the river! Anyway, after this faltering start the walk along the banks of this lovely small river was very good.Eventually we reached South Darent village and we left the river here and walked South up a long pull to reach the top of the North Downs.Passing through Fawkham Valley Golf Course we eventually reached Fawkham Green and our lunch stop at "The Rising Sun".
After lunch we had the inevitable steep climb back out of the Fawkham valley and over the top and into the Darent valley and back to the car. This was not a "classic" walk but it was pleasant enough and in a corner of Kent that we don't often visit.
Stats for the walk were ...
