another part of the South Downs

Saltdean loop

The forecast was good and it turned out to be a great "walk Day" with a nice breeze and just enough sunshine to stop us getting overheated.

We drove down to the south coast and parked up at Saltdean. The route took us up the southern side of the South Downs and across lovely rolling countryside until we reached the South Downs Way. Turning South East we followed the SDW for about 5 miles until we reached the outskirts of Rodmell where lunch was beckoning at "The Abergavenny".

A long slow uphill pull after lunch bought us back to Telscombe and the downhill run back to the car.

A short outing Groombridge to Eridge

Groombridge to Eridge

The weather was foul and none of us fancied a long walk in driving rain. So plan "C" was to meet up at a pub - we chose the Nevill, Crest & Gun - for lunch and IF the rain was abating we might get a short stroll in the afternoon. As it happened the forecasters got it spot on when they said the rain would stop around 1-30 and so we did get this short 3.5 mile walk in just to stretch the legs.

We left one car at Eridge and drove the 3 miles to Groombridge and left the second car there as this was a one-way walk. It was a bit overcast initially but then the sun started to break through and the high humidity meant that we quickly abandoned wearing the waterproofs !

Another ramble over the Ashdown Forest

Ashdown Forest Loop

The weather looked poor and with Trevor needed elsewhere Ivan and myself decided that a close to home stroll over the forest would be best. We could tailor the length depending on how wet we were getting and with several "lunch Stops" around the area we could always cut and run if the heavens opened.

As it turned out we did get a few light showers but the rain was not as bad as forecast although the high humidity was a pain as we had to wear waterproofs from time to time. So we ended up doing a longer walk than planned.

Its now "Foxglove" time for the wild flowers
